Adoption Connection, PA is sending our kids in care and their families to Kennywood for a day of family fun this summer, and we need YOUR HELP!
The Benefits
Establish Normalcy
Kids in care constantly miss out on opportunities that are readily available to their peers. This dissonance can lead to further isolation for the youth. Adoption Connection, PA, invites you to help instill normalcy into the life of a child in the Pennsylvania Foster Care System. By paving the way for youth in care to have the same common experiences as their peers, such as a family trip to an amusement park on a summer’s day, youth can feel more connected to their community, their peers, and their family.
Spark Excitement
Feeling discouraged comes easily when kids have experienced hardship and trauma, especially when issues have been on-going. Giving kids in care something to look forward to helps to give youth hope for their futures and lift them from despair. An exciting event, such as a trip to Kennywood, can be a light at the end of the tunnel for kids, an encouragement to keep putting their best foot forward with each new day.
Develop a Sense of Adventure
Kids who have experienced trauma are not often able to feel safe as they take risks and experience new things. Their sense of adventure is polluted by real danger and a need for survival. They don’t often get to experience thrills and excitement the way their peers do. That’s why Adoption Connection, PA, is sending our kids in care to Kennywood for a day: to experience adventure in a safe environment where they can focus on excitement rather than self-preservation.
Strengthen Families
Children in foster care often feel disconnected from the families caring for them. Their family members may look different from them; may have had different experiences; may not share the same memories. Family events, like a trip to an amusement park, are essential for family bonding and for building a sense of belonging. Shared experiences help foster families move forward together, united toward the future. You can help provide an experience like this for a foster family by sponsoring a kid in care to spend a day at Kennywood with their family.

The cost of a whole day at Kennywood for a child or, even more, an entire family may seem like an unmanageable donation, but there is nothing that we can’t accomplish when we work together! That’s why we encourage you to gather a group to sponsor a family or child together. Take a collection with your family, your friends, your office, or a community group to sponsor a child.
