As an open and affirming foster care organization, we are proud to work with all families inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity, and marital status. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all families.
Adoption Connection, PA offers services in collaboration with Hugh Lane and Persad for families, including:
AFFIRM Caregiver Training – Hugh Lane provides an 8 hour AFFIRM course that is group-based support for caregivers to help build an action plan and key skills to better support LGBTQ+ youth in their care. Built by utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), AFFIRM helps participants understand how we can all take our next best steps to support LGBTQ+ youth, regardless of our starting point.
Currently, AFFIRM is offered virtually to any caregiver. This includes: parents, foster parents, kinship (grandparents, relatives, coaches, etc.) or other natural supports who could benefit from learning how to increase affirming actions we can take to uplift LGBTQ+ youth. This virtual series is held over four sessions via zoom. Each session runs two hours, and is FREE! You can get more information at info@hughlane.org.
In addition, ACPA has five newly assigned staff members who will serve as Champions for the LGBTQ+ community within ACPA. If a staff member has questions concerning correct terminology or how to address a certain situation, the Champions will be able to assist them. The Hugh Lane Foundation is providing ongoing training to these staff members so that they are fully educated on topics concerning the LGBTQ+ community.
ACPA welcomes all families to become foster parents without consideration of race, gender or sexual preferences.
